Class 5 – Year 5
This half term, Class 5 are investigating the topic of the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings and basing the enquiry work (Geography, History, RE, D+T, Art, Music) around this subject. After half term we will be linking all of our enquiry work to the topic of ‘Brazil’. In Literacy we are reading ‘Beowulf’ and basing work around this Anglo-Saxon legend. In Science we are learning all about ‘Light’.
PE will be Wednesday (basketball) and Friday (urban hockey). Please make sure your child has outdoor trainers and warm clothes because we will be outside as much as possible weather permitting. It is helpful if you send PE kit each Monday and leave it in school all week.
There will be a piece of Maths and Literacy homework each Friday . This will usually consist of maths practice, Spelling, grammar and punctuation practice and the learning of times tables. Please ensure this homework is returned after the weekend. Failure to complete homework will mean it will be completed during ‘golden time’ on Friday PM.
We would really like the children to read every day or at the very least 3 times a week, either independently or to an adult, and we will be monitoring reading diaries and rewarding the children with prizes. Please support your child with this as they cannot do it without your help! We would like reading books and reading diaries to be in school every day so that adults in school can also hear them read.
