On Friday, eight children were chosen to represent our school at the EFL Kids Cup regional finals in Crewe. Thanks to our recent tournament win at Harvey Hadden meant that we had the honour of representing Nottingham and Notts County against schools from other League Two team's cities.
After a long journey, we kicked off our campaign against Lincoln City. We soaked up a lot of pressure, survived a penalty scare and eventually came out 1-0 winners thanks to a superb finish.
Our next game saw us up against local rivals, Mansfield Town. A much better performance from the first game saw us hit the crossbar once and the post twice. Sadly, we just couldn't get the ball in the net and lost the game 1-0.
Next up, we faced the favourites to claim to spot at Wembley, Morcambe. Despite a few OUTSTANDING saves from our goalie, the well organised Morcambe side ran out 4-0 winners.
We headed into the last game knowing that a win would see us qualify for the semi finals. Sadly, Carlisle United pipped us to second place by taking the three points. Even a Melbury wondergoal with the last kick of the match wasn't enough to give us the win.
Wembley will have to wait another year but the children were a credit to our school as always. Mr Thompson and Mrs Morris were so proud of every single one of them and more important than anything was that we all had a wonderful day out. Also a big thank you to all of the grown ups who came and supported the team and a big thank you to the guys from Notts County who transported us, gave us advice and helped contribute to what as a memorable day for us all.
